After a 3-year absence, Malaysian-born, Australian-based TV presenter, cook and ex-restaurateur Jackie M returns with a new web series, Wok Around Asia, and this time around, she hopes to recruit the help of local foodies, chefs and food bloggers to find the best street food that Malaysia has to offer.
“A few years ago when I was in Penang, a local blogger brought along some takeaway Chee Cheong Fun to one of my filmed cooking classes at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa,” says Jackie.
“He was very keen for me to try it because it was an atypical take on the iconic dish. That display of authentic food passion stuck in my memory, and I’ve now come to think it’s actually a brilliant way to try out some of the best street food in town. In the limited time I have, I’d rather not spend half a day hunting down a famous dish as I’ve done in the past, only to find the stall closed or the dish sold out.”
In Wok Around Asia, Jackie is putting the call out to local chefs, foodies and food bloggers to bring along their favourite “tapau” street food to mouthwatering meetups that will be filmed indie-style for the series.
“I want my audience to learn the what, where and how of these delectable delights, so what better way than to crowdsource the information?”
Apart from these mastermind gatherings, Wok Around Asia will cover other aspects of travelling through this part of the world, including activities, sights, accommodation and everything in between.
Wok Around Asia is produced for Jackie M’s digital platforms and for TeebTV; it aims to demystify Asian food, travel and recipes for those looking to get the most out of their next overseas holiday.
Filming begins January 10th and the first series will cover Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Siem Reap (Cambodia).
Jackie is available for television, radio, print and online interviews regarding Wok Around Asia.
